A page is a poor place to sell timber: species, grade, length and delivery are settled by talking. What a page is good for is the register and a way of reaching somebody, and both are below. The mailbox is read by a person.

03 — ONE MEASURABLE THING
Your hands are about twenty-five milliseconds wide. That is what makes long clean runs so rare.
Press a button along with a steady pulse and you will not land on it. You will land scattered around it, and the width of that scatter is a property of you rather than of anything on a screen. Give it a number and the rest follows: the share of taps inside any window is the error function of that width, and the chance of an unbroken run is the per-tap share raised to the length of the run. The second number is always much worse than the first.
Measure your own scatter
A pulse runs at one hundred beats a minute. Tap along with it — the button, the space bar, anywhere on the pad — and after a dozen taps the figures below are computed from your own timing rather than from an assumption. The first two taps are discarded while you settle in.
At a scatter of 25 ms, 77.0 per cent of taps land inside a ±30 ms window — which sounds comfortable until you ask for twenty-five of them in a row inside ±15 ms, where the same hands come to 1 in 430 million. Now halve the scatter to 12.5 ms and the same run becomes 1 in 691. Twice as steady is not twice as good; the exponent does the rest, and that is why a clean run feels so unlike a good average.
The share inside ±w is erf(w ⁄ σ√2), taken as a normal distribution about your own mean offset; the run is that share raised to the length of the run. Both were checked against a Monte Carlo of three hundred thousand taps before being written down. What is not here: a chart, a judgement line, audio, a score. This measures one property of a hand and stops there — the app is a different thing and is not played on this page. Your taps are computed in the browser and are neither stored nor sent anywhere.
